Supervisor Piepho feels it is important to have members from the CSD and others who are interested in this issue come before the Board of Supervisors during public comment and give testimony to this issue. From the Town of Discovery
Bay Meeting Minutes, May 17, 2006 "Discuss and Direction on Request
to Make a Portion of Indian Slough a “No Ski Zone” (Tetreault) Treasurer
Tetreault stated that he is on the water twice a week or more and now
traffic on the water is getting more busy for the summer. He stated that
he would like to see the area behind Discovery Bay on Kellogg Creek be
made a “No Ski – No Pull Zone” since there is so much boat traffic coming
in and out of Discovery Bay and from Orwood and from Indian Slough. He
stated that it is like a highway for boats. He feels that with all the
traffic in that area the potential for accidents is high and that people
should not be towing a skier or wake boarder or tube in that area. Vice-President
Piepho stated that he agrees that this is a dangerous area to be pulled
through, he asked to clarify that this was not a request to make the
area a “No Wake Zone”, only a “No Ski – No Pull Zone”. He suggested that
the Board write a letter to the Board of Supervisors and the Marine Patrol
requesting the area be looked at and that a “No Ski – No Pull Zone” be
posted. He also suggested they carbon copy to Reclamation 800 even though
they do not have jurisdiction. Treasurer Tetreault stated that he thought
it was handled by the Department of Waterways. Legal stated that he thought
the Sheriff’s Department had jurisdiction over that area. Treasurer Tetreault
stated that whatever it takes to get it done it needs to be taken care
of because this time of year it is just going to get worst out there.
There was discussion about who would take care getting the letter together.
Vice-President Piepho stated that he would put together a draft and send
it to staff to be finalized. General Manager Koehne stated that staff
had maps of the area and they could mark one and put it with the letter.
Audience member Walter stated that he felt this was a necessary thing
to do. He asked that the Board consider asking that the area down to
Orwood be included in the request. He stated that with the inclusion
of Discovery Bay West there are now more boats launching out of Orwood
Marina and this has also become a very congested area. He also stated
that he thought it was a County Ordinance to make this area a “No Ski
– No Pull Zone”. The Board agreed and asked that the area to Orwood be
incorporated into the letter." http://www.co.contra-costa.ca.us The boat show will be too late after all.
The Town/DBCSD has already voted to approve the no ski ordinance, which
extends from Orwood to the first DB water entrance by the marina. The
Board of Supervisors is expected to officially sign off on this May 15th.
There would need to be a great deal of protest at that supervisors meeting
to stop this in it's tracks, and even that may be fruitless as no doubt
Mary Piepho has already got the othe Sup's on board for this. The course was made up of two flat bars, one mammoth fun box/rail, and a floating kicker. Out of 22 riders, local boy Brandon Martindale pulled it out just before midnight.
